- Hornbeam is a wonderful choice for a stand-alone tree, single species hedge or as part of a native hedge mix. Hornbeam has large zesty lime green leaves in the early spring which become darker green as the seasons move on turning brown in Autumn.
- Hornbeam keeps its leaves on the plant over winter and we refer to it as semi-evergreen for this reason. Because of this, Hornbeam is a great plant for privacy and screening. It is non thorny and wildlife friendly – providing excellent habitat for birds and insects.
- Hornbeam will grow up to 30cm per year and can be trimmed into a nice tight hedge – we recommend you trim once a year in Autumn to keep the foliage dense.
- All you need to do is simply choose the height of the plants you want to plant now and the number of plants you need.
- We recommend 5 plants per metre in a double zig-zag row for a thick hedge, but you can get away with 3-4 per metre in a staggered row if you don’t mind waiting an extra year or two to form a thick hedge.
